In 1932, George G. Blaisdell founded Zippo in Bradford, Pennsylvania. He aimed to create a lighter that looked good and was easy to use. After acquiring the rights to an Austrian windproof lighter, he redesigned it according to his own ideas.
To this day, Blaisdell's design has remained virtually unchanged. Since 1932, Zippo has produced over 300 million lighters. In 1962, the product range expanded to include a 6-foot measuring tape. This was followed by money clips, knives, writing instruments, and keychains. However, the lighter has always remained the most popular Zippo product.
Zippo has built an international distribution network. The brand is synonymous with quality and craftsmanship 'made in USA' in many countries.

The name suits the company well. The Tasmanian Tiger was one of the largest predators in Australia. It wasn't the fastest, but it was the most enduring, able to chase its prey until exhaustion. Its jaw, which could open up to 180°, made it a formidable opponent. The endangered animal was last seen in a sanctuary in Tasmania. All these traits—hunting instinct, endurance, and will to survive—are reflected in the brand's products.
