In the 1950s, founder Allan Halme started production of bags, gloves, and backpacks. Initially, he sold only to forest workers under the then-company name Pyllkönmäen Leather Goods.

The quality of his products quickly spread, leading to increasing orders. Halme eventually built a small factory and employed several staff members. High demand prompted him to expand his product range to include more backpack models as well as travel and motorcycle bags.

Orders continued to grow, prompting the construction of a second production facility by the mid-1960s. By this time, the customer base included not only private customers but also retailers and the Finnish armed forces, who appreciated the quality of Savotta.
