To prevent a fire accident or damage to fields, forests, and meadows when igniting the field cooker or campfire, proper handling and restrictions on the use permit (if applicable) must be observed. Tip: If the lighter is carried in a tightly sealed plastic envelope, it can also be used in moist/wet environments, such as areas with rainy seasons. Otherwise, there is no guarantee that the spark will work.
The classic among storm lighters is the legendary Zippo. This is a gasoline lighter with flint, whose flame does not extinguish in light to moderate wind. The foam inside absorbs the gasoline and capillary action ensures that the fuel is led up through the wick. For refueling on the go, there is the Zippo Power Kit with a gasoline tank and spare flint including installation tool.
Point-ignition or jet-flame lighters can also be ignited under stormy conditions. These are special gas lighters. However, they are not suitable for very low temperatures.
Particularly practical is the Fox Outdoor functional gas lighter, combined with a knife, corkscrew, and bottle opener.
Since the Swedish Army was looking for a method to make fire in any weather and with as few aids as possible, the so-called Swedish steel or carbon steel was "improved." It can't be said to have been "invented," because there was already a way of making fire in this way, at the time of the Romans. Matches obviously fail in less favourable weather conditions, or they simply break too easily. Resourceful developers have created an alloy that generates sparks when rubbed or struck quickly. This can use sharp-edged metals or stones, which keeps the necessary and to be carried materials within limits. Another advantage is that it can be used at every height, even on high-mountain tours, to make it move. Ideally, such a utensil can be stored as a key ring in the equipment.
With the exception of the camouflage lighters, which are basically a regular lighter with camouflage optics, all our "fire givers" are specifically intended for outdoor use. Here, gasoline is often used instead of lighter gas. It is considered windproof and reliable.
Special devices also ensure water resistance (not all models), and of course, we also have the classic Zippos on offer.
Gasoline lighters are considered all-weather lighters, whereas commercial (butane) gas lighters are known more as disposable lighters. Both variants can be bought in our shop. Versions with gas work without a wick, while those with gasoline have a wick. They absorb the fuel by means of capillary action, where it is then mixed and burned with oxygen as an oxidizer. A gasoline lighter generally has a "steadier" and more voluminous flame than its butane counterparts. It also smells of lighter fluid, while the butane gas is almost odourless or not intrusive.
