What to Consider When Using Mugs

After use, mugs and drinking vessels should be cleaned as soon as possible to keep them clean. Pathogens and germs can quickly enter mugs during outdoor activities if not cleaned promptly.

Particularly sweet or sugary drinks can quickly leave residues that are difficult to remove afterwards, as they stick stubbornly. Before storing, wipe the mugs with a dry cloth to prevent any liquid or moisture from entering the backpack.

The choice of mug depends on its intended use. Mugs are used as thermal mugs for coffee or tea, coffee-to-go mugs, or for transporting cold beverages. The mugs in our range differ mainly in size and material. In addition to stainless steel mugs, thermal mugs are also extremely popular.

To save weight, it is recommended to repurpose items. Opting for a stainless steel mug instead of a plastic one has the advantage that it can also be used as a pot for boiling water.

- What materials are travel mugs usually made of?

Metal mugs have the advantage that they can also be used for cooking in case of emergency. However, the manufacturer's instructions should always be followed! Most models are also made of hard plastic or polycarbonate, and less commonly of porcelain. Besides their intended use, personal preferences play a significant role in the selection. In terms of weight, most materials do not differ significantly, although porcelain naturally weighs a bit more.

- What variants are available?

First and foremost, collapsible mugs are incredibly practical. The walls of these vessels fold down when not in use, so the mug takes up hardly any space during transport. They are also often referred to as telescopic mugs. Besides regular mugs, there are models with carabiners as handles, allowing them to be attached externally to equipment without taking up packing volume. A third variant includes mugs with lids, which can, for example, also be used in the car during the daily commute to work.

- What else should be considered?

Depending on how many mugs will be needed during the trip or activity, it may be worthwhile to invest in stackable models. Here, the space requirement is naturally lower than with non-stackable variants.

- How should mugs be cleaned?

This largely depends on the intended use and the material. Those who often drink (black) tea from a mug have to deal with stronger dirt than someone who only fills it with water. Immediate rinsing reduces the risk of beverage residues sticking. Otherwise, only mild cleaning agents or even better, biodegradable dish soap should be used. For this purpose, a dedicated dishcloth or a soft cloth is suitable.
