Whether camping, fishing, or hunting – a high-quality one-handed knife is suitable for almost any purpose and should not be missing from the basic equipment of outdoor enthusiasts. The range of durable one-handed knives from ASMC is extremely extensive and offers many different variants from premium manufacturers such as Haller, Böker, or Walther.
One-handed knives are the ideal companions in everyday life or on trips in nature and should definitely not be missing from any equipment. The versatile cutting tools – also called rescue knives, are used for various purposes and are compact enough to be easily stored in a pocket and thus always within reach.
One-handed knives are popular as everyday tools (Everyday Carry) for opening packages, cutting cords, cutting fruits and vegetables, or for other daily cutting tasks.
One-handed knives with special functions like seatbelt cutters and glass breakers can also be useful in emergency situations, for example, to free trapped persons from vehicles.
One-handed knives are also frequently used in DIY projects. Craftsmen can use them to cut materials like carpet, cardboard, plastic, or wood.
Due to their compactness and lightness, they are ideal for camping, hiking, or fishing, to cut ropes, carve branches, or prepare food.
Just as versatile as the applications of rescue knives are, so are their blade shapes.
Besides the "Normal Shape" with a straight edge and straight blade back, the so-called Upswept Point Form features an even sharper tip, which is particularly beneficial for skinning.
In contrast, rescue knives in the so-called Clip Point Form are a combination of the Normal Shape and the Upswept Point Form but differ by having a downward curved blade back from the aforementioned variants.
However, these are not all the blade shapes you can find in our rescue knives! The range includes the classic Japanese Tanto with a robust, high-lying tip, the robust Drop Point Rescue Knife as a true all-rounder among pocket knives, and the Spear Point Rescue Knife, which tapers more sharply and is easier to control due to its lesser belly.
Similarly, there are small differences in the grind of the blades. While some one-handed knives feature wavy blades that make it easier to penetrate the cutting material, knives with a curved Recurve grind are better suited for carving or cutting through rope.
In principle, according to § 42a WaffG, it is forbidden to carry a knife with a one-handed lockable blade and a length of over 12 cm. However, our legislation also allows for significant interpretive leeway here: carrying so-called one-handed knives is permitted insofar as it is justified by legitimate interest. This case is practically given if the one-handed knife serves a generally accepted purpose, such as being necessary for the exercise of a profession or a specific sport.
First, it is important to determine the intended use of the new rescue knife. Accordingly, it is also necessary to clarify what cutting properties the rescue knives have and what blade length the new rescue knife corresponds to. Additionally, you should consider the grip shape before purchasing: Does the material from which the grip is made fit well in your hand, and does the shape of the grip make it easier for you to hold your new rescue knife? To ensure that your choice falls on the right rescue knife, we recommend that you address the aforementioned questions in advance and answer them for yourself. The more aware you are of the purpose and characteristics of your new rescue knife, the greater the likelihood that your choice will fall on the right companion. Rescue knives should also be stored safely, for example in ammunition boxes, to ensure that they do not fall into the hands of children, where they could pose a potential injury risk.
